Nicholas Finn and Audrey Nolan both have lost their spouses. They both have moved to a small community in the Central Valley of California to start new lives and work at a local high school. Audrey has been there for four years. Nick has been hired as the new principal. Nick has received several complaints pertaining to Audrey that she is not a team player. In his interview with Audrey he puts down some demands that infuriate her. Her sassy responses irritate Nick. However Audreys rapport with Nicks daughter Ellie has taken her out of her malaise over the loss of her mother. This and Audreys spunky personality begins to captivate Nick.
